Vintage/Modern Jazz Pickups

In my quest to making a good decision for a good set up pickups for my MIM Jazz Bass I think I've come close to a sound description of what I want.

I'd like to get that John Paul Jones thump and richness played finger style, but I'd to be able to use some EQ and play with a pick to get a punk rock type of sound, think Matt Freeman/Rancid. I'd also like to able to do a light mid scoop with the EQ to get a nice rich and detailed slap tone. I'd also like good low end extension into the lowest frequencies when the pickups are both all the way up but most seem to do this because of the humbucking nature when all the way up.

The MIM pickups have really good low frequency extension when both are full up and decent highs, but there's not a whole lot of richness or any mids for that matter in between. If I go crazy on the EQ I can get decent tones out of them but I really shouldn't have to do that.

Pickup recommendations ? I've been looking at the Nordstrand NJ4's mostly.

Go for the Nordstrands You will not be sorry if the vintage jazz tone(John Paul Jones) is what you are going for. I have the Nord P-Bass Pickup right now In my 86 P-bass and it sounds just like a 60's P-Bass. The Nord Jazz Pickups were voiced to sound Like Just what you are describing.
