Well what ever it is, it has steel poles and ceramic magnets. It's not a vintage Fender P style pickup, but more like one of their import types.

That doesn't mean it won't sound good though.

I knew it wasn't a vintage fender. It's in a 73 P bass & I was wondering if it was maybe a common aftermarket pickup from the 70's or 80's

I'd say it's something from he 80s. The DiMarzio P was one of the first P aftermarket pickups, (along with Bartolini Hi-A), and that came out in 1977.
