Volume drop?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Schecter Custom-5 that I have totally redone electronics wise.

I have had an EMG BQC Preamp in it, and a 40P5 in the neck and a 40JV5 in the bridge. The bridge pickup has always had a lower volume than the neck. I figured this was just the pickup's output.

Earlier today, I decided to flip-flop the pickups to see how they sound with the J in the neck and the P in the bridge. I love the tone this created, but the bridge pickup (now the P) has a much lower volume than the neck.

So now I know that the pickups aren't the culprit to the volume drop. So what is and how can I fix this to even out the output?

It is either the way the preamp is built, or something isn't fully attached in the wiring.

"location, location, location".

you'll need to raise up the bridge pickup and drop the neck pickup to get even volume response from them.

Yup.

And the height angle (how close it is to the heavy side compared to the light side) matters too.

I messed with that, and it didn't help a whole too lot.

It's not a slight volume drop. It is a very big volume different. I don't think the pickup heigth can change it this much to even it out.
