Volume knobs on Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a MIM Fender Jazz. Probably about 10 years old. Anyway I usually keep both volume knobs all the way up. I was playing around with them tweeking the bridge volume down a little and I noticed that there was a big difference in sound when going from say 8-10 but very little when going from 1-6. In other words all volume change is in the last part of the turn. Is this normal? Are there better pots?

Thanks!

I have the same "problem". I think this is due to the fact that the pot is logarithmic. You can change it to a linear pot. I'm not an expert though

This is because you are using audio taper pots.

If you want to try linear taper pots, that might make things a bit smoother.

I've noticed that as well. I like the tone with one knob just slightly down and the other dimed and I've had trouble finding that same effect on my Variax in the Jazz models. Maybe I need to adjust the knob a bit more.
