volume problems

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I just replaced the stock pots and jack on my Precision Bass, and I followed the wiring diagram from Fender to a T. Everything works great now, except the volume pot. It won't lower/mute the volume at all, and turning it up all the way just makes it really really loud. What could I have done wrong? Any tips? Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like the cold end of the volume pot is not grounded. if you post the diagram you used i can comment further.

Your ground is not connected on the pot.

Did you bend the one lug up and solder it to the back of the pot? Did you ground the back of the pot? All the pots should be grounded together and that ground should run to the output jack.

Thanks guys— your comments plus careful consideration of the diagram proved that was the problem. I used this diagram: http://support.fender.com/diagrams/b...136000BPg2.pdf

It's not clear enough to a wiring newbie like me, but everything is working great now. Thanks again.
