volume/volume vs volume/blend

Sign in to disble this ad
Does volume/volume offer better pickup separation than volume/blend?

In other words, in my MM/J MTD bass, would a volume/volume setup better remove the J pickup from the signal path if I wanted only the MM pickup (or vice versa)? Is there not a real difference in the two options?

thanks

I don't think there's a difference. with the blend knob all the way in one direction, the other pickup is off. I prefer volume/blend so I can control the overall volume with one knob. I don't like having to adjust the two controls to get the right volume. In fact, I had my first F Bass converted to volume/blend with no adverse effects, and I'm going to have my new one converted.

A blend pot is actually two volume pots. Therefore a V/V setup has two pots, but a V/B setup has actually three. That means more load on the pickups. Whether or not this is audible I don't know.

I also prefer the ease of V/B.

Hi,

this week I changed my Tobias into "plan C": since the V/B nor the V/V worked the way I liked it, I replaced the balance pot with a 5-way rotary switch. See Tip: alternative for bad blend pot for the story and mp3's.
Regards,
Jaap
