Wanna see some shoddy wiring?

I popped open the control cavity of the Washburn Status Series 1000 I won on eBay and saw this:

On the left, you'll see three wire ends dangling above that pot, terminating into...nothing. Bad enough, right? Oh, but I'm not done. On the right, that's a solder joint held together with...

...Scotch tape.

Since the bridge tuner for the D string won't turn without pliers, I'm taking it to my tech. I told him to just unsolder everything in the control cavity and solder one or both pickups straight to the output jack so he can use an electronic tuner for the setup. I'll probably end up dropping a Bartolini 3.3 harness into it.

What a downer. I saw your other post, where you were so excited about winning it.

Never mind, though, eh? If you're anything like me, you'll love any excuse to get out the soldering iron, and by the time you and your guitar tech have finished with it, I'm sure it'll be the best Washburn/Status headless in the country!

Now we know why it's playing up electrically.

Email Rob at Status re the bridge/tuner and get a replacement if it's not just dirty and jammed.

Pity it turned out not to be the joy you hoped, but it will be eventually.
