Want to add Midi to bass, but how?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've recently added the EMG piezo 4 channel buffer to my piezo set up on my 4 string fretless, and it has 4 buffered outputs for...midi...? Right now I am just mixing the single channel piezo output with my other two pickups, and it sounds great.

But I never leave well enough alone!

Question is, just what do I need to get the output of the preamp to midi? Is there a converter available? I don't think the Roland or Boss(?) GK stuff will work, as they use magnetic pickups, I believe, for their input, plus connector looks pretty complicated, etc. Any thoughts?

FWIW:

the reason the GK system is the way it is is because you have to supply the input so the converter knows the signal associated with each string. It uses a 13 pin connector to communicate that (among other things) through the cable.

So you'll have to find a converter that will utilize your peizo connection or change the connectors to ones that work with the converter you're going to use.

Regardless, there's no system that accurately tracks synth bass guitar made today I'm aware of. The Vbass is not synth at all but tracks as good as it gets. You have to go piccolo bass to get decent tracking, otherwise the application is not worth the bother in my experience, unless you like playing a single sustained note.
