Wanted: Wiring diagram for a P/MM with switch(es)

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a wiring diagram for a P/MM setup, similar to this:

But I want a switch atleast for the MM to make it paraller/series.

If some guru would kindly help me by telling me what components I need (on top of those shown in the pic) and where to wire em all.
Also would like to know how to ground it all properly. Is it just a wire through every pot attached to bridge?

So in the end the setup would be somewhat the following:
P vol
P series/parallel(/off, if possible)
MM vol
MM series/parallel(/off, if possible)
tone
perhaps a killswitch. Am I correct if i say it's just an on/off switch near the jack?

Use this schematic created by line6man, TB's wiring guru:

This wiring will give you S/P for both pickups, but no off position. Omit the three-way switch and just merge the wires at that point - or you can keep it so you can have P-only, P+MM or MM-only.

A kill switch is simply an on/off switch, like you said.

I'm sure line6man himself will pipe up soon with an updated variant with an off position.

Actually, no. With the pickup selector switch, the wiper terminals of the volumes are wired as outputs, which means you cannot solo a pickup when both are selected, as rolling one pot down decreases the total output impedance until the jack is shorted.

I do have this diagram on hand, though.

For series/off/parallel, use DPDT On-Off-On switches.

If you want a killswitch, it's wired like this, with a DPDT, DPST, SPDT or SPST switch.

He is always the go to for wiring questions. I think line6man deserves a thank you thread as much as anyone else

Whoops.

I need to start paying attention to details, don't I.
