Wanting to mod my ATK...

Sign in to disble this ad
So i bought an ATK100 after playing it at a store, i thought it sounded awesome! But after a few practices playing it through my gk head, it feels like its lacking a bit when it comes to getting a rounder tone. First off, the tone pot is pretty much useless, the only noticeable thing it does it cut volume. Could i replace the pot so i get a more useable range of tones, like a p-bass tone control does? Secondly, i'm thinking of adding a jazz pickup in the neck position, good idea or bad? I want to be able to get a fatter, rounder tone instead of the constant punchy bridge humbucker tone. Any ideas?

Did you try changing strings ? Maybe something like the TI jazz flats would do wonder for rounding your tone.

changing strings can do wonders, as can fiddling with your amp

I remember playing an atk300, that one was capable of a deep round sound anyway, but it was active (which after a search I see the atk100 isn't)
otherwise, a stingray-like bass is going to sound aggressive anyway, and when it's not active there's not a lot you can do about it out of the box

Flats are out, i like bright and punchy strings. Can i replace the tone pot with something that will give me a better range of tones?
