wanting new pickups in MIM P...

Sign in to disble this ad
So i have a MIM Fender p and i'm not very happy with the sound. Sounds muddy and dull. I did some searching here on TB and i think i've got it down to these 3. I found this video on some thread i went through... I'm sure its floated around. I really like his sound. Jamiroquai- Runway I also like P-nut's tone on Crack The Code by 311(actually all of 311's songs) Fat, Percussive, and funky. here are the 3...

Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders
Lindy Fralin
Fender '62 reissues

I would say an EMG. But, thats my personal preference.
Pnut plays Warwicks.

But out of the three pickups you chose I would get the Quarter pounder.

yeah p-nut plays a warwick. But on that video from what i read he is using a p bass. When i did a search i didn't see much about the EMG's but from friends i hear they are pretty good.

Check out some delano pickup, it is very good pickup, gives very punchie sound, nice deep low without getting muddy and the high is also very good. They are passive if u like to keep your bass passive without too much mod needed and they make your bass about 30% louder.

Should of mentioned this. I don't want to do any modifying of the wood, like routing or anything. I don't have the tools to do it and i'm a wuss. I don't want to stray too far from The P bass tone. I know the examples i listed don't sound like P's. But basically i'm looking for a fatter, less muddy sound. I've checked a few sights, Where i can find the Delano's?

Here is the sight for Delano bass pickups

http://www.delano-pickups.com

I used Delano PMVC4 FE/M2 P style pickup for my 4 string P / MM bass.

The sound it come out is not muddy at all, it is fatter, more punch and at the same time u can get a clear high as well.

I used Rotosound Stainless Steel strings for my bass bcos i've got MM pickup near bridge which is good for slap tone.

But when i switch it to the neck pickup which is the delano p style, it sound completely different, sound more P bass tone and warmer tone as well.
