Hi guys. I'm building a Warmoth Jazz 5 string. The finished body will be here early next week and I had a few questions about the electronics to buy if you guys could help me out. I'm basically building a 5 string version of my stock Fender Jazz Marcus Miller. I love the tone of the MM and that's what I would like to stick close to, but upgraded of course.
It's routed for Genuine Fender Deluxe 5 string pickups (4" and 4-1/8"). After much research I believe I will buy the Nordstrand NJ5F (for that vintage tone) with an Aguilar OBP-1 Onboard Preamp. (volume-volume-treble-bass) I had a double battery box routed as well.
First of all, will this configuration work? Nordstrand NJ5F - Aguilar OBP1 - 18volts. Will it give me the vintage growl and bark I like? I play mostly jazz/funk/r&b with fingerstyle and slap. My favorite tones are Marcus Miller, Jaco and Victor Bailey.
The pups don't come with covers and I'm not a big fan of exposed pole pieces because my paws are pretty oily and they get gunked up quickly. So I'd like to find some Bartolini/EMG style pup covers. Will any covers fit the Nordstrand that would fit a Fender Deluxe 5? Where would I find them?
I'd also like to have an active/passive switch like my MM Jazz. I have found wiring schematics to install one but I was just checking to make sure the pickup/preamp configuration will work with an active/passive switch.
