Warwick; changing pickups, not MEC preamp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

Is there anything stopping me from swapping out the MEC pickups from my Warwick Streamer LX and keep using the MEC preamp?

The pickups I've got to put in are P Quarter Pounders, and a Dimarzio Model J.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It's just an experiment; I currently am running the Streamer as a passive with those two pickups I mentioned. I've seen that most will just swap the preamp over and keep the mec pups but why not try the preamp back in there.

a filter based pre would be a great choice (using just about any pups). i didn't care for the stock pre in my thumb. if you can find a used alembic activator pre, or pick up an acg/east filter based one from alan/bestbassgear...just super.

I'll second mmbongo's comment. The treble frequency on the EQ on both Wicks that I had seemed like it was centered a bit too high (something like 10kHz?). And it always was too "glassy" sounding (for lack of a better term). Generally speaking, the EQ seems to be suspect and the pickups seem to be fine.

But what's stopping ya? No one here. Let us know how it goes.

I had the same experience with my Corvette $$ but a pickup swap actually ended up reducing the excessive brightness nicely. Very, very happy with how the bass is now.
