Warwick Rockbass $$ Passive to Active?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the process of allocating funds to purchase a Warwick Rockbass $$ 5 String. The Double bucks are passive of course, but the sales guy put an idea in my mind about a mod changing it to an active set up...

Can this be done with the existing $$'s that come stock, and just change the circut system with adding the battery compartment?
If someone has done it before, what circut model number did you use? (Sticking with MEC brand?)

Thanks,

Cul

Absolutely. Just replace the stock passive tone knob with stacked bass/treble preamp of choice. I like the basslines blackout 2band. It even has selectable treble center freq via little dip switches on the circuit board. You will also replace the input jack (that comes with the basslines blackouts and most active preamps btw.

The vast majority of active basses are passive pups and active 2 or 3 band preamp. I would not use a mex preamp as they dont impress me that much. I used to own a real german warwick active 5 string corvette, bubinga, ovankol, wenge woods etc and of course passive mec pups with mec 2band eq.

Thanks Darkstorm. Good info. I think its going to be on the list of first things to look at when I take possession.
I looked on the MEC Website and they have a few different models of wiring. I'm just trying to work out the best suitable setup to get it active without drilling extra holes everywhere
