Right, here's the deal. I'm not completely satisfied with the MEC electronics on my warwick...it sounds thin and the highs seem "artificial", know what I mean? What would you suggest for a more vintage, j-bass like tone?

this is a common complaint amongst warwick owners (re: the MEC's). Most quality pieces you put in there will sound better than the MEC preamp.

there's a long thread about this topic. i think it's called who has warwicks with non MEC? Try searching for it...

For the size of those pickups, I'd go with Delano, I believe one of their pickups will fit in there and they are somewhat close to you...

Thanks! I've read that thread elpelotero. I get the same impression as you, ALL > MEC ...but it was mentioned a couple of times SD basslines were the best match to this bass so that's what I'm going for. Hope it's good, I'll let you know when it's done

SD AJB-5

This is only a lead to check, not a recommendation. I ordered AJB-5's for my bass , not a Warwick, and when you check the artists who use them P-nut and George Strait's bassist have put them in Warwicks. I only ordered them cause they would fit my routing and string spacing. Very specific measurements on the Seymour Duncan site. I have not even taken delivery so no opinion yet!

Thanks. I'm a bit worried with that...I checked the size of the pickups, they fit the routing (actually they're just a bit smaller in lenght) but the bolts distance doesn't match. Could this be a problem?

I just put AJB5s and an STC3a in my SS2 and I instantly noticed an improvement.
