warwick switch

I have a warwick corvette fretless, I was thinking of getting rid of it till I saw a guy on youtube slapping a tony franklin signature with only the J pu on and a little distortion and now have decided to give it another shot. Basically Im wondering if I switch out the electronics for an on board preamp and passive pups could i get a more aggressive sound to were i can actually play slap on it. I see that alot of people have used Basslines in this bass and really like em. Have any of you replaced them on a fretless and achieved a more aggressive slap tone as a result?
Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated.
thanks s

How would I wire up the aguilar OBP-1 controls on the corvette, vol=reg, blend=reg, tone knob= converted to stacked bass/treble pot?

any other preamp suggestions? I ran it through a custom boost/drive pedal last night and got close to what i was looking for, i just think an OBP would get it the rest of the way.

All I've done on my fretless Corvette is to replace the single-coil MEC pups with dual-coil DiMarzio J's. Still sounds great and there's no hum.

I don't slap, though slapping a fretless seems tough without frets to make some noise.

I replaced the pickups and preamp on my thumb B.O. from stock MEC to Delano JMVC's and an Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp. The conrols are vol/vol stack, mid (push pull mid selectable), treble/bass stack. This upgrade stopped me from putting her on the auction block. Some people like MEC, I Do Not!

well its not the traditional sound, but I do use roundwounds and a decent slap tone can be achieved, i just want a little more aggressiveness from the electronics.

All I can tell is that it's got a P/J pickup arrangement...

Love my ash body Corvette but the sound of the MEC pickups wasn't very articulate.
Just installed a set of DiMarzio's new Area J pickups. Initial impression is that they will put me where I need to be. They seem to have much more deffinition and are still noiseless.

I have spent considerable dollars on trying to solve this problem with different strings before this pickup change. I settled on TI round Jazz for their feel and low tension, but I finally realized the pickups were just not right. Not bad, but not right.

Rehearsal next Wednesday, so until then..........
