Warwick tone knob pot replacement - What can I use?

Sign in to disble this ad
Need to replace one of the pots on my passive Warwick Corvette std 4. Replacements from an official Warwick dealer would cost me nearly half the total price I paid for the bass, so hopefully I'll find something else.

Anyone know of any good after-market or 3rd party replacements? All my local guitar shops seem to parrot the same advice; "Take it to a Warwick dealer". My research has shown that they're Bartolini brand, but I haven't found any single pot replacements; only entire passive setups.

If I have to replace the rest of the pots, so be it. I'd just like to avoid spending $300 dollars on some basic electronics, lol.

Thanks a bunch!

$300 for a pot!? They must be smoking pot.

Pots usually run a few bucks a piece.

If it's a passive bass, go with 250K/500K pots.

I would suggest linear for the volumes and audio for the tone.

I know, right? Seems a tad excessive, haha.

(Here they are, a mere 239 EUR)

Thanks so much for the help. I've never worked with instrument electronics before; I had no idea if anything else would be compatible. Thanks again!

The link you included is not for a simple replacement pot--it's for an MEC 2-band active EQ and complete wiring harness (for passive pickups).

If all you need to do is replace one of the pots, just look at the pot and see what the resistance value that's printed on the back of the pot is. It should be easy enough to find a replacement.

Mike

PS: The link for the passive tone pot and capacitor for the passive Corvette is http://shop.warwick.de/product_info....te-passiv.html . That's 26.90 EUR--still rather expensive for a pot and capacitor, but a lot cheaper than 239 EUR!

That includes a preamp.

* Balance-Pot
* stacked Bass / Treble-Pot
* 3 Pot-holes
There wouldn't be bass and treble controls in a passive setup, and you can see the components on the PCB for the concentric pot in the picture.

Also, those are MEC pots, which are very pricey...

I had no idea you could use a preamp with passive pickups, that's awesome. I can already tell signing up for these forums will dissolve my once willful ignorance towards instrument electronics, haha.

And thanks for that link, Mike. I have no idea how I missed it!

90% of the time, when someone speaks of an "active bass", they are referring to passive pickups with a preamp.

Active pickups are rare, and are generally used with passive controls rather than preamps.
