Washburn XB102 Bantam preamp

just got this bass for $30 at a garage sale and was wondering about the preamp. the tone knob doubles as an active/passive switch. I notice the mids disappear when the preamp is on and its annoying. anybody have any experience with this bass? can the preamp be modded?

washburn xb 102 bantam doesnt have a preamp. im in the middle of rewiring one as i type this. either the people you bought it from lied to you, or someone modded it.
