Weird flange/phase type sound from MIM jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have this weird phase type sound coming from my bass, even when i go direct, i've tried it on 2 different amps. idk what it is... maybe a set up problem? i solo'd both pickups and they each have it, a little less than when i have them solo'd but its still there. worse when they're blended. anyone else ever have this problem?

its a MIM Fender Jazz bass... 4 string.

I had a similar problem recently... sounded like a chorus effect to my ears.

Check out how I solved it to see if that helps you.

Yep, I had the same exact thing happen with my SX short scale precision. It lasted about a week then it just stopped and hasn't returned. They were doing some pretty heavy duty construction right outside our house...maybe it was some kind of electrical or radio interference from the machines??

Some roundwounds sound that way... Rotosounds in particular. But also if the pickup is too close you can get that sound. The pickups too close is more of a warbling tone.

I always kind of liked it when it was from the strings.

Yep, same thing happened to me. If you hand wrapped the string around the tuning peg instead of drawing it up by turning the tuning head, there is a good this is your problem.
