Question SOLVED +1 LAKLAND Weird Lakland 55-02 P'Up problem in my bass!

Sign in to disble this ad
The J pickup of my 55-02 has nearly died. This bass has the new LH-3's The MM position p'up is working 100%

About a week ago, the J pup was static, sort of distorting, very very similar to the sound an active bass makes when the battery is dying. Then the next day it was fine.

Today I fire it up, and the J pickup is about 50% volume on the G string, 25% on the D, and about 5% on the A, E and B strings, getting progressively worse.

So the J appears to be dying.

It does the same thing whether Active/Passive, same thing no matter which coil is selected...
And yes, I've changed the battery several times - to no avail.

Any suggestions?

FWIW:

wire the pup straight to the jack so it skips the preamp entirely. If it still acts wierd then it's likely in the pup - but I've never heard such a pup failure description as yours.

warranty replacement? if the volume accross the strings is different you could have one of the internal coils shorting out. otherwise i dunno what would be causing it unless the pickup has separate leads for the coils and one of the leads is breaking off.

Kirk replied to my email promptly and is sending me a new pickup at no extra charge, as it's under warranty!
