How did you record this? If you went direct in, or into an amp without a -15dB pad, it could be that you're maxing the bass frequency and getting distortion, which would happen with a+/- 16dB preamp.

Take every knob on your on-board preamp and turn it down a quarter turn.

The Aguilar is +/- 16dB, which is huge. You need to learn to utilize the cutting as well as the boosting. For example, with +10B, 0M + 10T will sound the same as +5B, -5M, +5T.

Hello
Hmm, listening to your sample it seems that the problem is more like string-related, mechanical. Sounds like something loose in the E string - pluck the string with the bass unplugged, can you still hear that rattle? Check the bridge saddle, maybe one of the action screws are loose.

If nothing else, try loosening the string and tuning back in, maybe changing the string with one from your older sets for comparison.

Hope it helps,
Adrian
