weird sounds coming from bass

I have an SRX300 that is almost a year old and it has a paper bag sound when I am playing a note while I turn the volume down. Sometimes there is no sound so I have to hit the bass and then it seems to work. I opened it up and the cables seem fine, but I have not taken it to a shop. i searched and found nothing

... Did you check the battery??? It is an active bass.

this used to happen to me aswell, like when u play, all of a sudden the sound will go quiet, then if u hit the string harder, slap it or something, it will get lauder again, like u kick started it or something, i thikn i just changed the battery and the problem went away, i forgot all about it actually lol, i think thats what got rid of that happening, assuming its an active bass. Mabe put some new strings on aswell.
