What 1/4 inch socket for a P-Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, so I now have an Ash precision shape body and a Fender replacement neck and bridge. I am also about to get some
Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound SPB-3 PU's.
My question is...What jack socket will fit a precision bass?
I have looked on ebay and there are a lot out there but I'm not sure if there is a specific type I should get...?
A friend said to try and get a gold one as it would make a better connection. I have had a look in this forum for related topics but have had no joy.
I know it's not the most exiting of parts but could anyone that has a P-bass tell me what I need...please?

Assuming this is a regular Presicion bass with the jack mounted on the pickguard, you need a panel mount jack.

As far as the gold, first off, unless you have gold hardware on the bass, a gold jack is going to look pretty laughable...
Either way, IIRC, the gold plating on most jacks is only on the threaded part of the shaft and nut/washer for cosmetic reasons, not on the metal piece that contacts the cable.

Even with gold plated contacts, i doubt it would make a difference.

Edit:
This is a regular passive P bass right?
For passive, either mono or stereo is fine, but for active, you need a stereo jack.

Actually doesn't matter which of those two, if it's a passive.
Either one will work.

Either one will work, but the one on the left isn't redundant. Head to radio shack and you can pick up a two pack for less than the price of one online. I've used them on several basses, and they work great.

Ask for 1/4" phone jack.

A very well made point!!! So gold isn't just the connections then, it's the whole look right?

Yes, I am just making a standard passive P-bass...So I can just get these things from a local hardware store, or are they specific guitar parts?

Thanks for the help BTW

As mentioned above, you can get them at RadioShack.
Very common and inexpensive part...

Should be like $3 for a 2 pack.
