So, I recently bought a Fender 62 Original P-Bass pickup for my c.1980 Electra Phoenix bass, which for a while was my only bass, plus my MIM Jazz body w/ fretless squier neck. So, the frets have begun to die on the Electra and I've since purchased a fretted neck for the Jazz. I only used the Jazz for Jaco tones anyways, so I never used the neck pickup (I also can't stand the tone of Jazz neck pickups) so now, I'm doing a totally custom wiring with the jazz and installing a P/J combination in it. I need to be able to get a wide range of sounds, from classic rock and heavy rock to even a little metal, plus something I can use in jazz band/school band. Basically, I need to be getting a heavy, fat tone that'll work with slap/solo stuff too. I was thinking about putting a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder (SBJ-3) in the bridge postition. Would this be a good combination with the Fender 62 P Pickup? Or should I just go with the SBP-3 pickup for the neck position as well? (I can still sell the Fender 62; it's in perfect condition and it's in the packaging and everything).

Could work pretty well. Never tried it tho!

I'm having a 5 way switch wired that'll give me neck only, both in parallel, both in series, bridge only, and a kill option, so i have a lot of versatility, and if i'm not even going to use both together... then whats the point, y'know? FWIW, i'll either use roundwound strings or (MAYBE) d'addario chromes.

"he described p's as for s**t" implies he did not think highly of precisions. The "however" before this sentence, makes me think the opposite.
Could you clear this up? kplztnx.
