What pickups/electronics

Sign in to disble this ad
I have recently acquired a benevente 219 6 string prototype with no pickups or electronics. I am looking to build something that would fit well in a gospel setting, I want something a little bit warmer than the typical smith tone that you most often hear in gospel, but still having that same type of growl. If you get my meaning. I was thinking of nordstrand pickups, but I don't know if they would fit into this setting. I can provide measurements for the pickup routs if that would be helpful to you.

Ok, I have decided on an audere classic preamp, but I am still looking for pickups. Any suggestions?

If warm, full sound is what you are after I'd suggest Villex pickups. I use mine from Dub to reggae to rock

Hmm, those look interesting. How are they when used with a preamp? Also, they look like they are blade magnets, but I couldn't find out on the site if this is true. Do they make six string pickups? I couldn't find that information either.

I suppose they are blade type (judging from the website). They make them any size really (first size was custom dimensions). Just contact them via email.

As far a preamps go, on the Villex-loaded basses I have the pre-amps off (running passive) cause I get a great variety of sounds out of these pickups that I have no need to engage anything else. Esp with the new line of Villex pickups (a totally different thing) I am really amazed (waiting to receive my second set of the new line now and the third one has already been ordered)

PS I have used the Bartolini and Aguilar preamps (for further sonic sculpturing) on my basses, but I was more than happy with the "basic" sounds (very versatile)
