What pickups should I get for my Les Paul copy?

I got a guitar of a friend today. Its a "gremlin" LP copy. I like almost everything about this guitar. It has a fast neck with a good width, has good hardware, 22 frets (this is a bonus, for me) and its see through! The only thing I really dont like is the pickups. They're muddy and somehow manage to hum more than the single coils on my tele. I really dont want to get rid of this guitar, because I'd imagine that I would regret shortly afterwords. What pickups should I get for it? I like the fenderish twang the you get with teles, but sound crunchy and can handle high gain distortion

I'd suggest dark star maybe that's bass only but that's what I'm putting on my next bass because it's the best out there IMO

Go to the web sites for DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan, which have pretty good descriptions of their pickups, and features that help select pickups for you based on your preferences. The plastic body might have unusual tonal properties, so calling them for recommendations might be helpful. I don't know a lot about guitar pickups, but based on my MIA HH hardtail Strat that came stock with Duncans, I'd say ol' Seymour does a really good job capturing vintage 'bucker tone.

DiMarzio 36th. Anniversary PAF pickups.
They are based on Larry DiMarzio's '59 Les Paul.
As mentioned above, this IS TalkBass, so you
might get a more thorough set of recommendations
from TheGearPage, and also like someone said, with that
plastic body, you might have some funky audio considerations.
That said, I personally have those 36th. Anniversary's in an
Ibanez, and they are simply awesome. Cheap, too.
Good luck.
