what pickups to use

Sign in to disble this ad
I am planning on ordering an alder bass body from warmoth, and will be using a moses neck on it but I cant decide what pickups to go for,

I like the way emg decribe the emg 35dc's though.
I like the sort of tone flea uses too.

I would appreciate some thoughts and experiences from you guys tho.
Not to mention some alternative suggestions.

Thanks in advance

FWIW:

There's been pretty consistent feedback on this forum that the DC's are on the bright/harsh side which is similar to my experience as well. In recall moving it to the neck really didn't help much - although I'm not a neck player. DavidRavenMoom has stated it was designed to go in the more mid MM position.

Normally you might think of putting a brighter pup in an acoustically darker bass but in my experience you won't know what that bass will sound like acoustically till it's done regardless of what woods it's made of. Moving the DC up to the neck position would be more variation than any acoustic properties I've ran across in a bass so even in the case of a dark bass I don't know that it would work.

Doesn't mean you wouldn't be perfectly satisfied with that pup choice. The only way in the end to know is to do it.
