What pot values for Nordstrand DC in passive?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hallo, I need some help. I ordered Nordstrand DC5 pickups, and as I am currently broke, will have to use them in passive mode only for some period.

So, if someone can help me, I would need some suggestions for potentiometers which would be suitable for these wiring. I am looking for vol-vol, in my opinion there is not need for a tone pot

btw, if that matters something, coils are wired in series

thanks,

Slobodan

the series versions or the parallel versions?

you definitely want 500k linear volumes for the series ones, and possibly for the parallel ones as well. if that makes the parallels too bright, then 300k lin or 250k lin would be smoother sounding.

(edit: read the whole damn post next time, walter! you'll want the 500k linears since they're the series versions.)

As standard, we use 250k. Still, a 500k will not hurt them
It is really up to you. What kind of bass (woods/pup placement…), sound etc….

Hi again, are you sure I need linear pot's for volume, not logarithmic?

edit: I found few threads here on TB saying linear are better then log, so will probably go that way.

one more question, is there a noticeable difference in sound quality between standard cts pots and some higher quality one's like Alps or Clarostat?

thanks
