Sign in to disble this ad
Working on my bass build and I have a set of Nordstrand Dual Coils in my J-bass. Now I just need to pick out a preamp.

1. Nordstrand Preamp
2. Sadowsky preamp
3. East U retro
4. ???????

What do you think?

I'd get it built and listen to it before adding a preamp, you may not feel you need one. If there's something missing tonally, you'll have a better idea on which preamp might be a better fit.

I've got a Nordstrand Big Split in the neck position of my J type and run passively it's got a great balance of lows, mids & highs.

I'm planning on doing a simple buffer and passive controls (coil switches for each pickup, volume/volume/treble cut/bass cut) in my 55-01 with DCs. All the pres you mentioned have good reps, I suppose I'd go with Nordstrand, just because they are probably voiced to go with each other. Not the best reason ever, but the only preamp of your choices that I've ever heard is the Sadowsky and my taste in tone has changed a lot since I had that.

Did you get the "wound for series" or "wound for parallel"?
