what pups for that jazz bass mid growl?

i am considering doing a jazz bass build and i am wondring what pups will do that bridge pickup mid growel that jazz basses do so well. i love the way the jazz basses do it but i am wondering what would do it even more?

Most of them? Seymour Duncan, EMG HZ's, Nordstrand, DiMarzio come to mind for Jazz pickups.

what about bartolini? those are what i am most attracted to but i have never heard a set of j's by them.

I tryed bartolinis j pups. In passive, they have a nice growl, but lacks low end for my taste, and the output is weak..., With a preamp they kill.

I'm a huge fan of that sound and installed a J pickup in the bridge position of my Precision. But I've been totally shocked to find that the Ibanez humbucker (in their SRX2EX) growls far more/better to my ears.

there is something to be said for lowering the action just right for some jazz bass growl.. i know Gene Perez does this.. check his tone out.. front pickup bias also..

so more then likely i would need a pre for bartos.(making them the most expensive choice)
