What pups/pre for 2nd bass to compliment/contrast my Bartolini bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Yamaha BB605 that I love. So much so that I am getting an 2nd one.

I have a Bartolini 5.4 A/P preamp with Bartolini hum-canceling jazz pups in the first one. Love it.

I may leave the 2nd one stock, but I have never been a fan of "the hum" that comes with single coils. I've had Sadowsky pups and pre in a 4 string jazz before and liked it a lot, but was wondering what other combinations are out there that you have had success with.

The pups are 95mm x 19 mm. There are 5 knobs and one toggle switch, so I have lots of holes. I like the passive option, bu tit isn't a "deal breaker" for me as I tend to use active more.

Thanks.

I don't think anyone makes after market pickups in that size. What size Barts did you put in the other one?

Basic Bartolini's. Stock off the shelf. Maybe I have the wrong measurements. I think they are Bartolini 59J1's. Only I think the Yamaha are both "long" pups.

Oh, they are Jazz pickups? All the photos I found of the BB605 had soapbars.

But now that I look, that is the right dimensions (94.70mm x 18.5mm).

So that opens the playing field.. what kind of tone are you looking for?

Hmmm...I've only seen the BB605 with J pups. I think the BBN or something like that has soaps.

Anyway, I'm not sure what tone I'm looking for. I like what I get with the Bart/Bart combo. I also seem to remember liking the Sadowsky preamp with I think they were DiMarzzio Ultra Jazz pups.

I guess I'm just looking for ideas that maybe I haven't thought of yet. There's just so many options out there, you know.

Well, the bass I was going to buy is in Australia so shipping is outrageous. Closing thread.
