What to put in my S.U.B.?

Thinking bout pimping my Musicman SUB. I like the tone from it but it's just not what I want.

So I need help in choosing what to put in it. I'm thinking maybe a new preamp and a new pup. But seeing as how this is my first time 'modding' a bass I haven't a clue what to look for.

I suppose the tone I'm going for is kinda like Flea's. Nice bass, and crisp highs. I play mainly funk, rock, jazz et al.

So reccomendations guys?

If you want Flea's Stingray tone I would definitely look into buying a new pre-amp with a 3 band EQ. It's difficult to get a good slap tone without mid control on there. I'm not sure how the pickup is, but I think it's the same pickup that in the regular Stingray.

Yeah fairly sure it's got the exact same pup and preamp as the 2-band Stingray. If I wanted a 3-band preamp I'd need a stacked pot right?

I don't have one a Stingray here but if I'm not mistaken, it has a control plate with all the electronics that can be screwed off and removed, similar to a Jazz bass. If you are able to find a three band EQ control plate, I think you can just buy the pots, the preamp, and the knobs and you should be good. You should be able to do a stacked pot too, that sounds a lot cheaper
