What replacement pickups fit into SX basses?

I'm assuming standard size Precision pups do, but what about their 4 and 5 string Jazz basses?

I personally like the stock pups. Anywho, I think on the Jazz basses, a few 4-string sets are simple drop-ins. AFAIK, there are NO 5-string sets that are direct replacements though.

Yeah, I'm waiting to play them with their stock pups before buying anything. I ordered my first SX basses (a P and J-5) and they're arriving Tuesday, so after a few weeks I'll know how much I want to mod them. But one of the reasons I bought them was to have some fun project basses to mess with so I've got to do something!

Yeah, I uber-modded one of mine. It was a lot of fun.... And came out KILLER! I swapped everything except the pups.

On my SX P/J, the routing under the 'guard for the P was plenty roomy, but the pickguard is cut specifically for the SX pups. I had a P Bartolini in there that was quite a bit smaller than the SX P pup, and then a Nordstrand, which fit fine but the mounting tabs on either side of the pup are smaller than the SX pups, leaving a gap. I have a black pickguard so it's no biggie to me...if you have a white guard it may bug you, tho. I guess you could always pry the guts out of the SX pup covers and use them for whatever brand you drop in if you don't wanna cough up for a new pickguard.

I recently bought a used SX 4 String Jazz bass off a guy locally and I can not get over the sound of the stock pickups.

You can see from my gear below,I have some great sounding pickups in my basses.

But, I will say I got very lucky cause the neck on it is awesome as far as tone and sustain....notes rings for days! I just have Fender 62RI Bridge so it must be the neck / body wood combination. I feel lucky with this one!

But as far as the single coil pickups on this bass, I love'em! They're not going to be replaced.

With that said, get a good setup and give them a try before you decide to replace them.
