Well, right now I've got a Douglas 6 string from rondomusic. It sounds OK but I'd really like to replace the pickups/electronics. However, it seems the only people who make 6 string J pickups for under $300 are Bartolini and Carvin.
My Question (in 3 part format) is:
1:Should the pickups be replaced before the preamp?
2:Which pickup would improve my tone more?
2b:If carvin, should I go with the Humbucker or the Single Coil?
I like a punchy, fat tone with an aggressive bite, so long as it isn't to clicky and scratchy.
