What value capacitor to ground?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm playing a Gibson SG Bass and I've always been unhappy with the amount of high frequency content on the mudbucker. There's too much. What I'd like to do is place a capacitor to ground off from it to eliminate the clack. Can anyone tell me what value capacitor I should use to suck everything from between 3 and 5 kilohertz on up off that pickup?

The pickup I'm using is a Dimarzio Model One in the neck position.

There isn't any clack coming from the bridge pickup, that one is fine.

I realize this will probably require a quite small value capacitor. Can anyone help me out before I just buy a bunch of caps and try them out?

You can't put a low pass filter on only one pickup unless you either actively buffer the pickups or add some series resistance (At the expense of some output.) between the two pickups.

FWIW, what you want would be a higher value capacitor, not a lower value. The higher the value, the lower the frequency cut.
The exact frequency cutoff point would be dependent on several factors.

Get yourself a small jumper wire, a bag of caps and go to town. If it where me i'd start off at around .015 and go up from.
