what value pots for jazz humbuckers

If I replace stock Fender jazz pickups with linear humbuckers do I need to change the pots from 250k to 500k.
Also on my P/J which already has a linear humbucker along with a stock P pickup what value should the tone pot be and is it ok to use a small pot there because the space is pretty tight where the tone pot is on a P/J.

I've never messed with bass 'buckers, but you'll be safe with 500k.

what did the manufacturer say to use? a 500k will load the pups more and lower the freq resonance peak thus making a darker sounding bass.

that's exactly backwards. 250ks will load them down more, darkening them. 500ks will load them less, brightening them up.
