what work did you have to do for your active passive switch?

I'm thinking about putting in a passive/active switch and I would like to know what all you had to do for yours.

Here's what I think (with very little knowledge) I would have to do for mine.

Looking in my bass it looks like I have a wire going from jack to preamp, and then preamp to volume. To me it seems all I have to do is set it up so its jack to the switch which selects either straight to volume or through the preamp and then volume.
Provided thats the way to do it, can I just change the wire from the jack to preamp and put another connection from the switch to the volume?

The schematic attached should show you how to wire up a bass with an active/ passive switch.

This system is for a basic setup with just two dials. More dials are better, as then you can get say 1 tone, 2 volume (one active one passive).

This also assumes you have had a custom pre-amp built. I am working on a website that will allow you custom design your own. Pretty simple really, use a calculator to work out the component values by answering questions about your bass and tone requirements. Then you just use those figures on the layout diagram and go build it!

The problem with doing this is that you are using passive (strong magnets) paickups. True active pickups use week magnets so as to not pick up residual feedback. basically, you will get an improvement in tone and output using this method, but with a good chance of feedback over the classic designs (EMG, Bartolini ect..).

Let me know if you want more info.
