Well, you can look at this several ways. The real marcus Miller bass is a '77 Jazz bass with a Bartolini TCT preamp.
He says this about the preamp:

It gives me extended high and low end.

MARCUS MILLER: Camel Island Jazz Legend
Bartolini no longer makes that preamp, but they make others.
The Fender Marcus Miller bass uses some other preamp, possibly designed by Fender, or maybe just bought from an Asian vendor.
So that bass is not "as close as possible" to the real thing. It's a Jazz bass with a Badass bridge, custom pickguard, and a preamp, that may, or may not, sound like a Bartolini TCT. From what I have heard, it doesn't.
So my preamp will also not sound like a Bartolini TCT, and will in fact sound like a '76 Music Man preamp, which is what it is. But it will extend the high and low end. It's a nice sounding preamp, and with different pickups does not sound like a Music Man bass.
I've been using one and you can get quite a lot of different ones from it. But I won't say any of them sound like Marcus, but I'm also not playing a Fender jazz bass. But with the treble boosted you get that kind of bright tone.
