What's a 1974 Precision bass pickup worth?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently acquired a 1974 Gibson Eb-0 that had a Precision bass pickup in it. I bought a new DiMarzio for it and took it to a local shop to have the new pickup installed. Turns out, at least according to the tech, that the pickup it came with is a 1974 Precision. The bass is still in the shop so I can't post pics, but any idea what it might be worth? It shows normal wear for a 33 year old pickup, but works just fine.

I found the following auction on Ebay which has a starting bid of $325. Too high? Too low?

Thank you very much for your help.

$250-300? That would be what I would expect. likely in that range IMO.

Short of needing the part to restore something to factory spec for a collector I can't imagine spending that. I don't think the sound of a 70's P-bass pickup is anything special.

A few years back I gave away a '78 P pickup. Kinda wish I still had it but honestly it would probably just sit in a box somewhere; I couldn't see myself using it instead of the other P pickups I have lying around. I imagine it's value is closer to the $60-160 range myself. As projectM mentioned short of someone needing it to restore a P to factory spec it's not worth a whole lot. Now if it were a '69 or older...

Ok, I got the pickups back today. The mark on the back says 18 55-74. Does that make them 1974s? Thanks a lot!
