What's better? Geddy or MIA stock Jazz PU?

Sign in to disble this ad
I like the sound of my Geddy Lee Jazz stock pickups (62 RI?) but bought a set of recent year Fender Jazz pickups from a MIA standard bass.

I have yet to get the MIA pickups.

Will they sound any better than my stock pickups? I know preference can be subjective, but curious to any input.

Thx!

Whether they sound better or not is subjective to you. I think the Geddy Lee pickups are the same as the MIM jazz, but I'm not sure.

The Geddy Lee has Vintage Jazz single coil pickups and the MIA has american jazz single coil pickups. I have both and if you like a more modern sound you will like the americans if you like the more vintage Fat growly sound you will like the stock pickups better.

i have always thought my GL pickups were different than MIM spec

they sound quite different--i'd have never guessed they could be the same, even with the different specs on the bass...

edit: thanks for the clarification nighttrain--that's a good description of how i hear them as well

BTW... the Geddy pickups are Vintage (62?) and I am almost 100% positive that the MIM ones are not the same.

Unless my ears are destroyed, my MIM Fenders Jazz pickups do not sound the same as my Geddy.
