Well, did you search on them in the pickups forum or on Google?

this site is so awesome you don't even need to search. i swear to god everytime i have a question about something, or am wondering about something or other someone comes along and posts something about it or bumps an older thread to the front page.

i kinda really want to get a darkstar for my italia mondial.. but thats $200, and i need to save up money for two trips to montreal, one skiing trip, and a weeks vacation in california not to mention $70 for pyramid flats!

Lakland still has soundclips of its Decade with two Dark Stars (ignore the pic that shows the bass with their new pickups, the Chi-sonics--the clips are of the DS). Enjoy.

I have one in a P bass and it sounds fantastic.

Due to their potential sonic destructive power, you need a special permit to own them.

These are great sounding pickups that were reverse engineered from the originals that were made by Hagstrom - Mr. Hammon did a great job.
I was lucky enough to grab this bass off ebay a few years ago. It's a Coronado IV with the original Hagstrom pickups. Guild also used them early on in their very desirable M-85 basses. These pickups sound huge.

Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes.
Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.
Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

Anyway, many people swear by them as a vintage replacement pickup.

As long as we are kicking some dumb answers, how about:

What is a Darkstar? A darkstar is positively bad@$$, and my favorite pickup

This is my new favorite bass, largely because of the Darkstars.

It's a pickup. And we have a Pickups forum as well. Moved.
