I got a Musicians Friend catalog recently, and I notice that the G&L L-2000 (and L-2500) have what are known as Magnetic Field humbuckers, whereas the L-2000 Tribute has G&L USA humbuckers. What's the difference between the two? Are the Magnetic Fields like Wal pickups, with each magnet individually wound? I've read here several times how close the G&L L-2000 sounds to a Wal, it's even been considered a "poor man's Wal".

The descriptions you are reading are simply a bit confusing. |

I've never played a Wal, but I've had many, many G&L's over the years, both USA and Tribute. The USA and Tribute have "sounded the same, as long as they were the same model." The hardware on the USA stuff is better, and I think the fit and finish is nicer as well.

No difference in pickups, just inconsistencies in the descriptions.

Maybe just a marketing gimmick?
