i have the bartolini 3.4 preamp in my bass and in the control cavity theres a dip switch as im reading up on it some people say it adds more boom to the lower string while taking away from the higher strings is this true?

If it increases bass and decreases treble, it could be a tilt EQ preset of some sort.

I don't see how it could have any effect on the individual strings though.
All of your strings are summed together as one signal, there is not a separate preamp/EQ setting for each string.

No, it shouldn't have any effect on the tone.

Whats the instruction manual for it say? If all else fails try it and listen to what it does. I'm geasussing it may just be a level control for output level. Could be wrong though.
