What's happened to my audere?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.

I have an audere in a parts jazz bass.

It was working now it is not. Do not suggest changing the battery cos that was the first thing i tried.

The LED still comes on when i plug in but no sound. but if i put the jack in only half way it does make sound - it's just distorted.

i had to take my bass apart do some stuff to the grounding and widen the control cavity cos the pre couldn't fit in there straight (dunno where the body was from). I also had some grounding issues i was trying to address.

so yeah; did work, now no sound. pickups are connected and working. battery is fine. sound is sent to amp if jack is half way in but distorted.

Who has an idea of whats happening? and how do i fix it?

Thanks

Hmmmmm... A bad jack? Bad connections, bad soldering, who knows?

Is the cavity shielded? Look for shorting against the input jack. If it's not from shorting against the shielding, make sure the input jack terminals aren't getting squeezed against the body. Also check that the jack hasn't been twisted, resulting in a short via the wiring.

Good Luck

Yep - you've got a grounding issue. I would guess
1. you pinched a wire during install.
2. the jack.

It's a tight fit in there, you may need to do some cavity adjusting via dremel. My JZ3 fit's find in a 75 RI MIJ but it is snug for sure - and I've experienced the same low volume fizzy distorted thing and fixed it by removing the pre and more carefully installing it.

The cavity on J bodies varies a bit IME.

hmmm.. it's not working even when the preamp isn't in the cavity so i don't think it's something pushing against the cavity. i9'll check the jack connection when i get home

Audere site has a really great troubleshooting page. Also write them. i had some problems wiring a Nordstrand MM4.3 to the audere and I had quick and numerous replies to my emails.

I had a similar issue when I dropped a new wiring harness into my p-bass... the culprit in my case was a pinched wire. It's worth taking a look at each wire to make sure they're not caught up somewhere.

Fixed.

the prong on the jack had some how bent so it was making contact on both sides shorting the whole thing.

Thanks all for you help.

bonus points for jdombrow for making the right call.

Now to pull out the router so as to have 18 volts of power!!
