Whats a stereo barrel socket worth?

Thats basically it, just wondering what people usually pay for one...

I've been asking around at most music stores and nobody has any, until I struck upon a fellow thats apparently a awesome repair dude. He wants like $40 (~US$30) for one, which I thought was pretty steep considering neutrik's are worth like $16...

Thats exactly the part I'm talking about.

I can get a similar part through Farnell for even cheaper but they're out of stock at the moment.

He reckoned the others were crappy quality, which is probably true but I doubt the original socket is much better quality than the one you showed or Farnell's $2.50 part, and it lasted 3 or 4 years. At $10, his has to last 4 times longer and at $2.50, its gotta last nearly 20 times.

The one I showed is a genuine Switchcraft, will last forever.

What is this Farnell?

Local(ish) electronics parts supplier. They're based in Sydney, so I'd order them in, along with a few other things that I also want.

But like I said, they're sold out, so I either wait till they're in stock again or ring a few other more local parts suppliers.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with Switchcraft.
