I just couldn't get into them at all in a precision setting. I put a set of the spb-1's into a p bass special and I liked that. I think the jazz pup added a little warmth to it so it wasn't as harsh. |

The Fender Original 62 will not disappoint either.

There doesn't seem to be any real magic to the P pickup. In my experience, they're either vintagey or overwoundy. If yours is too hot, pretty much any non-overwound P pickup will sound good to you.

I have the 62 Reissue in mine and it rips. Best $90 you'll spend on a vintage sounding pup. | +1 Vintage tone in a vintage instrument this is it. True Fender pbass tone. Have this in my AVRI with deep talkin flats - love it.

On a side note, I recently bought the Fender 'Original' Jazz bass set (white and orange box), the sheet inside said: Fender Original '62 J-Bass pickup with a wiring diagram for the 62 J bass with stacked pots and seperate caps... put them in a Squier VM fretless and love them. |

It's almost unbelievable how good my standard MIM sounds with these. I've also been very pleased with the cheaper Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage pups (from WD). Made magic to a Squier I used to own. But good as they were, the extra cost of the 62 RI is well worth it.

It doesn't say 62 RI on the front of the package, but it does on the back. It's these ones: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/acces...-pickup#review
The standard pickups come in plastic bags, like this: http://www.darrenriley.com/shop/cart..._detail&p=2921
