Where does this wire go?

I'm in over my head...

I'm gonna refinish my son's '99 Jazz bass (he already refinished it poorly, once). I pulled it apart, and when I took off the electronics, this one black wire was hanging there. What do I solder it to? The input jack? One of the pots?

The soldered end of the wire is on the pot closes to the input jack (tone control.)

So it just sits under the bridge as a ground, right? That would explain why there's no solder on it.

I noticed when I played that bass through an amp, I was getting a very slight pop when my fingers touched or un-touched the strings. Does that mean that ground wire wasn't properly connected to the bridge?

And thanks for the quick reply, dman.

There should be a small hole under the bridge, and yes that wire does actually just sit their.
You want just enough of it sticking out so the bridge keeps it in place but not so much that it keeps the bridge from making solid contact with the bass as this will result in a lack of sustain.

Got it. Thanks. Yes, I can see where the wire goes, and I'm pretty sure it was not there when I took off the bridge.
