Question where to find a jack casady pick up. not the darkstar ,the eppiphone one

I know this might sound crazy. But, Im shocked at how good of a tone i get from my casady bass.I think this pu is freakin great.I was wondering about dropping one in the mid section of my frettless j-bass.Would this be worth my time?Is the tone from the hollowbody and not the pu?
Does anyone know what the deal is with low impedance pickup. This seems like a good option. However I've only seen it in the eppi jack casady. Are there any other pickup makers who use this system?

I understand your motivation, as I also love the tone of my JC Epi. But I have some doubts that the pup would work nearly as well in a different instrument: I strongly suspect that the tone comes from the unique combination of the guitar design and the pup. I remember reading in interviews that Jack spent two years working with the R&D people at Gibson to design the pup for this particular bass, and that it also took a long time to figure out exactly where to locate it; apparently a half-inch either way made a big difference.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in on the more general question about low-impedance pickups and explain why they aren't more common -- and why they tend to be associated with hollowbody rather than solidbody basses.

The Jack Casady bass is a copy of the Gibson Les Paul Signature bass from the 70s.

The original bass had a low impedance pickup designed by Bill Lawrence. That pickup used 42 gauge wire, as with most high impedance pickups, and was wound to about 2.2k in series.

They used a transformer to step up the signal, and different taps on the transformer gave different tones.

For the Casady bass, Jack had them use heavy gauge wire, like on the old Les Paul Triumph bass. They wound it with 28 gauge wire, and added extra alnico magnets.

I'm actually building myself a LP Triumph bass, so I have been experimenting with those low impedance pickups.

My original SGD pickups were very similar to the Gibson LP Signature pickups, except I used ceramic magnets and a preamp instead of a transformer.

So if you are interested, I can make a copy of the Epiphone pickups, and use an impedance matching transformer.

I put a Les Paul Triumph bass pickup in my casady, and I still have the original casady pickup and transformer. If you want it let me know.

Regards

I have a question about the setup of the pickup.

Mine came with the pickup much too close to the strings. How can I lower ist and do I have to be careful when loosening the screws? I do not want something to fall inside the body.
