Where to put the bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
While browsing Irish luthier Chris Larkin's website, I came across the following question:

At what frequency should an onboard preamp's bass control (ideally) be centered?
Should it be centered on the frequency of the fundamental of the lowest note of the instrument (i.e. the low B on a 5-string); or somewhere in the 75-100Hz range (thereby placing it above the frequency of a low E)?

Any thoughts?

For a shelving control, F3 around 80-100Hz.
