Where to put cap for tone pot

Sign in to disble this ad
Im rewiring a p bass and i notice that with different diagrams, sometimes the cap goes from the center tab to ground, and sometimes it goes from the far right tab to ground. Which is right, or does it matter?

It's not really important, just make sure that when you are turning the knob towards "10" you get full frequency, and when you turn it to 0 it acts as a Low-pass (gets bassier/darker). That being said, the wire from the center lug on the volume pot (+) will go on the center lug of the Tone Pot if the capacitor is an outside lug, and if the capacitor is on the center lug the wire from the volume pot (+) will go on an outside lug. It's interchangeable, but common practice says to have the (+) going to the center lug and the capacitor to ground going on the outside lug, since center lug is input in this case and the outside lugs are respective outputs. Also make sure you have a (+) going from the volume pot to the tip (+) of the input jack as well. Good luck!

Edit: after thinking, I'd like to just say follow the wiring diagram, and the capacitor can go in either place so long as it's grounded :-D
